Q. Who owns and manages Burton Memorial Hall?
A. The Hall is a charity registered in England and Wales with the Charity Commission, no. 505018, and is held in trust by the Charity Commission Official Custodian on behalf of the parish of Burton. The running of the Hall is carried out by a Management Committee comprising of elected members along with representatives of user groups, and is managed under the terms of the Hall's Constitution.
Q. What are Burton Memorial Hall's Conditions of Hire?

Q. What about Risk Assessments?
A. The Management Committee have undertaken a premises Risk Assessment, copies are available to hirers from the Bookings Manager. Additionally, all hirers are required to complete a Risk Assessment for their own activity or group, a copy of which must also be provided to the Bookings Manager prior to the hirer's first hire session. A sample template to help hirers undertake their own RA is available from our Hire Documentation page under the Rooms link in the menu above.
Q. How many rooms are there and how big are they?
A. There are normally four rooms available for booking, but this is temporarily reduced to three rooms due to remedail work in a store room. Please see the Rooms link in the menu for full details.
Q. For which activities is Burton Memorial Hall licensed?
A. The Hall holds a Premises Licence issued by the local authority, which permits the following licenseable activities: a performance of a play; an exhibition of a film; an indoor sporting event; a performance of live music; any playing of recorded music; a performance of dance; entertainment facilities for making music; entertainment facilities for dancing.
Q. Does Burton Memorial Hall hold an alcohol license?
A. Yes, the Premises Licence issued by the local authority includes the sale by retail of alcohol. The Hall's Standard Hiring Agreement also includes specific requirements for Hirers wishing to sell alcohol on the premises. N.B. The Licence covers both alcohol sales and donations made in respect of alcohol. Use of the Hall for the provision of alcohol at events must be requested at the time of booking if the Hirer intends to provide alcohol for sale or in return for a donation. A fee is payable for the use of the Hall's alcohol licence in addition to the usual hire fee for the room/s booked.
Q. Does Burton Memorial Hall have music licences?
A. Yes the Hall holds a Music Licence, covering both live and recorded music.
Q. Does Burton Memorial Hall have internet access?
A. Yes, the Hall has free hyperfast B4RN WiFi for booked in users.
Q. Does Burton Memorial Hall has facilities for babies/children?
A. Yes, the Hall has two baby-change stations, plus a toilet for under-school-age children (with small toilets and low-level sensor tap sinks.)
Q. Does Burton Memorial Hall have facilities for disabled persons?
A. Yes, the Hall has level access at both ends; a disabled toilet at the south end; and a hearing loop is available in both the Reception Room and the main hall.
Q. Can I have animals at my booking at the Hall?
A. No, animals are not permitted in the Hall unless they are official assistance dogs.
Q. Does Burton Memorial Hall have car parking space?
A. Yes, there is a car park for Hall users for 34 cars immediately in front of the Hall. There are 2 marked disabled bays in the car park for the use of Blue Badge holders, these are alongside the north end entrance door.
Q. Is there a bus service nearby?
A. Yes, the 555/556 service between Lancaster and Kendal/Keswick, and the bus stops approx 50 yards from the Hall.
Q. Which is the closest railway station?
A. Carnforth Station is 5 miles away, Lancaster and Oxenholme The Lake District are both approx. 12 miles away.
Q. I'm attending an event at the Hall, what other facilities are there in Burton-in-Kendal?
A. The village has a general store/newsagent/post office, a village pub offering rooms, food and a choice of drinks, there are also several guest-houses offering bed and breakfast accommodation in the vicinity. The village also has a multi-use games area and a bowling green, both within a couple of minutes' walk from the Hall. There is a petrol station on the A6 approx a mile to the west of the village, and the Burton Moto Services on the M6 northbound are less than a mile from the village.
